Academic Future in Kenya

I have been sitting in my room watching students at Chuka University and Multimedia University graduate and many things have been running in my mind since then. “Hurrah! ; I have graduated “ these fresh graduates extended their happiness to their faces leave alone their souls and their parents. What was more in my mind was where will all these graduates go? Currently the level of unemployment in Kenya surpasses 70% of total graduates Kenya gets per year. With an average of 100,000 fresh graduates each year, 16% get a lucky to be absorbed in government offices and NGO’s. The question is; where do the rest of the graduates go? The day that this question will be answered by each and every stake holder, major crisis such as Economic, Social and Political crisis will reduce significantly in Kenya

I have a friend who has studied to Masters Level and the guy has ended up jobless and getting fed up by his/her parents even after being educated to that far. Leave alone interest of this guy being a douche bag who is not aggressive to find a job or involve him/herself positively , think about a first year student who gets that story that  someone who holds a Masters Degree is at home getting old day by day doing nothing at home ; what does that student end up thinking? He/ She will end up devaluing the education system in Kenya. I always say this and I will now extend it to the world close to me and far from me, we should focus more on what best is one capable of doing and do it to the extreme best. If 84% of us wasted 16 years sitting in academic structures and corridors and finally end up jobless, it would be a great loss of our economic growth and GDP/ GNP. To students who have graduated today I wish you all the best but to those still studying; a word of advice to you is that, think beyond those four walls where you are busy trying to cram 18 Cm formula that will never be applicable at any point of your life and get to see your life. Education is one of the many ways of getting successful in this life and if it happens it not your line, stop wasting your golden time, walk out and do what you comfortable doing.
